No matter what your topic or the shape of your project, one of your very first activities should be an opportunity for your participants to get to know each other. This will help them to understand the perspective of their fellow participants, which will support them in communicating and collaborating later on.

OneHE maintains a showcase of icebreaker activities that are particularly well suited to VEs.

You may like to organise a ‘kick-off’ session where you and your partner introduce the VE project, explain what participants will be doing, and allow participants to meet and get to know each other. These can be held online or in-person, but if you are able to get together in-person then this can be a great opportunity to make an occasion of it, perhaps sharing food and gifts from your partner country.
